Nowadays, the digital natives communicate, interact with people and get most of their information through a range of media technologies. In this regard, media literacy is the ability to access, analyse, evaluate, and create different contents. This means, that the youngsters who have this competence are able to understand the complex messages they receive from television, radio, Internet, newspapers, magazines, books, billboards, video games, music (and all other forms of media). Furthermore, many educators have discovered that media literacy is an effective and engaging way to apply critical think-ing skills to a wide range of issues, and, at the same time, to increase the chances of young people be-coming active citizens of their communities.

It is important to mention that media literacy skills can support youngsters to:

- Develop critical thinking skills
- Understand how media messages shape our culture and society
- Identify target marketing strategies
- Recognise what the media maker wants us to believe or do
- Name the techniques of persuasion used
- Recognise bias, spin, misinformation, and lies
- Discover the parts of the story that are not being told
- Evaluate media messages based on our own experiences, skills, beliefs, and values
- Create and distribute our own media messages
- Advocate for media justice
